College Website Content and IA

Client: Bucks County Community College

Client Profile: A two-year community college in Newtown, PA serving approximately 20,500 students across three campuses.

Research Methods: Usage analytics analysis, survey, card sort, and task-based usability testing.

Timeline: Six months

Project Goals: Total website redesign. Restructure content, navigation, and overhaul content strategy.

Process: I served as the in-house project manager, UX designer and content strategist for this project. The redesign team consisted of two back-end developers, one front-end developer, a web designer, the marketing director, and two IT executives. I planned and organized the redesign process from start to finish including the following steps:

Designed the project management timeline and plan. Ex. Redesign Project Plan

Reviewed analytics data available from Google, Siteimprove.com, and the CMS (TerminalFour). Ex. Website Redesign Report

Designed and implemented surveys for potential students, current students, and faculty/staff of the college. Ex. Staff and Faculty Survey

Interviewed stakeholders across the campus.

Recruited students for usability studies. Ex. Student Volunteer Flyer

Analyzed data collected from interviews, surveys, card sorting, and usability testing to inform design. Prepared data visualizations for the design team and stakeholders. Ex. Prospective Student Survey & Current Student Survey

Conducted a complete content audit of the entire Bucks.edu website.

Coordinated weekly design meetings.

Worked with a third party website designer to describe design needs for homepage, subpages, widgets, interactive UI and navigation menus. Ex. Content Types Inventory

Served as liaison between the design team/developers, website designer, stakeholders, and executives.

Sketched low fidelity prototypes. Ex. Desktop Homepage & Mobile Homepage

Developed wireframes for the website designer.

Prepared presentation for stakeholders. Ex. Redesign Presentation

Designed content strategy around the content lifecycle and the needs of the college.

Developed a content transition plan for the content transition team to follow. Ex. Content Transition Plan

Monitored hotjar feedback from users of the new website and made design and content adjustments accordingly.

The final product is a website that is focused on current students, staff, and faculty while pulling the interest of prospective students.  The overall look, feel, content and organization have been enhanced based on data gathered from the user research, stakeholder interviews, and the content audit.
